Elijah's House
Elijah’s House is named in reference to the story of Elijah in I Kings in the Bible. Elijah had failed. He was exhausted and cried out to God, “I have had enough.” Elijah needed a safe place to rest and prepare for another attempt at success. God met Elijah’s needs and prepared him physically, emotionally, and spiritually to carry out his call. Elijah’s House was developed to meet the needs of homeless men who battle with addictions to alcohol and other drugs. Our staff members are here to respond to the cries of men who say, “I have had enough,” and who are desperate for a new start.
Elijah’s House is a 10 bed, extended care, treatment shelter for adult males who are addicted to alcohol or other drugs. Our facility provides shelter from 4pm to 8am seven days each week, with additional time allowed for planning and action toward goals and acquiring needed resources in the community. Elijah’s House is a “dry shelter,” which means that anyone under the influence of illicit drugs or alcohol will not be admitted.
Life skills workshops and access to community resources are provided to give guests practical tools needed to take the next step in recovery. Each guest is encouraged to apply for and to take advantage of community resources that may lead to accomplishing his individual goals. We also provide guests with a clean bed, laundry facilities, shower and toiletries, and clothing when needed and available to encourage good personal hygiene and a healthy self image. A continental breakfast, a light lunch for those who are onsite working on goals, and a hot meal at Manna’s soup kitchen are provided to ensure good nutrition and physical strength.
Our purpose is to help homeless men find rest, restoration, substance abuse treatment, and other resources and tools according to each person’s individual needs and goals. Intakes begin at 4pm each day, unless other special arrangements have been made. If you are a homeless adult male, your substance use has become a problem, or continues to create problems in your life, and you need a new start - call us at 207.990.2870 ext. 113.
